A standard vending machine needs about one square metre of floor space. Most full size snack and drink machines are roughly 900mm to 1100mm wide, 800mm to 900mm deep and around 1830mm tall. See our machines’ full dimensions here. Allow more than the cabinet itself though: about 100mm behind it for airflow, and roughly the width of the machine in front so the door swings fully open for restocking. That puts the working footprint closer to 1.2 metres wide by 1.6 metres deep. If you have a clear stretch of wall the size of a large fridge, a level floor and a power point nearby, you have room.
The harder part is usually getting the machine into position. Doorways, lifts, ramps and tight corners cause more placement problems than floor space does.
What are the typical dimensions of a vending machine?
Full size machines sit within a narrow range. Our machines go from 730mm to 1320mm wide, 790mm to 850mm deep and 1910mm to 1940mm high.
Before committing to a spot, check the specifications for the actual model going in, because 50mm either way can decide whether it clears a doorway. Our range of vending machines for hire lists the options, and a combo vending machine is worth considering when floor space is tight.
Will it fit through the door and into the lift?
Doorway width is the most common obstacle. Internal door leaves are often 820mm or 870mm, and the clear opening is smaller again once the stop and hinges are in the way. Our skinniest machine is 730mm wide, comfortably fitting through any standard door.
Choosing a spot people will actually use
Floor space is only half the decision. A machine tucked into a back corridor because that is where the room was will not get used. Look for genuine foot traffic, decent light, and space for a couple of people to stand without blocking a walkway or fire exit. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources. Our guide to the best places to put a vending machine goes into this further, and mobile coverage matters too, since cashless payment and remote monitoring rely on a signal.
